Welcome

Welcome to the Alton Literacy Center! This office was established during the summer of 2008 to provide technical assistance, using a problem solving delivery model, for administrators, teachers, parents and students. Following the Reponses to Intervention (RtI) philosophy, the Alton Literacy Center supports student achievement in our district through assessment, instruction, data collection, professional development and organization of materials. The staff at the Alton Literacy Center, which includes a Reading Supervisor and a Literacy Coach, provides support for district administrators and teachers in numerous ways such as; data interpretation, intervention implementation, consultation and peer coaching. We continually strive to improve literacy instruction for students while increasing parental communication. The center provides teachers with a setting for collaboration and reflection on instructional practices. The development of the Alton Literacy Center demonstrates the commitment of the Alton School District to focus on reading achievement and confirms our desire to increase academic success for ALL students.
